The Life of Brian
Born the year the Beatles broke up, Brian had a lot of catching up to do by the time he came of age and discovered the Fab 4 in his formative years. Growing up in Houston, a far suburb of Liverpool, he was surrounded by urban cowboys, bad '70's rock and other grotty forms of contemporary music. Into this decidedly Non-Fab musical soil was planted a very hearty seed the day that Brian's aunt came to town with a Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band record under her arm. No, it was not the Beatles version of Sgt. Pepper but the awful Bee Gees movie soundtrack. Unlikely as it may seem, he loved this album, this sound, this new musical direction. Although the Beatles' songs were being performed by others, the magic was in there somewhere and not even the Bee Gees could totally ruin that.
In High School, he loved the old Monkees reruns that used to play every afternoon and he watched them every chance he could. So, from the Bee Gees to the Monkees to Ferris Bueller singing 'Twist and Shout', Brian was slowly but surely heading in the right direction. It would take a college buddy with cassette tape copies of every Beatles album and the documentary movie 'Imagine' to finally unveil the gear world of The Beatles.
Every tape he listened to held some new sound, some great catchy song and he couldn't get enough. Inspired by their music and the urge to be able to play it himself, Brian taught himself to play guitar and eventually got good enough to play with a couple of bands, keep practicing, write songs and record them. Then, in 2000, after attending several Eggmen shows, getting to know the boys and hiring them to play his 30th birthday party, the lads asked him to join the group as Stage Manager, M.C., guitar tech and bartender. It's been a great time and they always find something new for him to do. Look for him introducing the show, playing percussion, singing backup vocals, selling T-Shirts, schmoozing with the crowd and playing guitar. Sorry girls, he aint so single anymore!
